War-criminal-in-chief, Isaac Herzog, will be arriving in Australia in early February to wash the blood of 71,000 Palestinians off his hands, while Israel’s assault on Gaza intensifies. Stand with Palestine and join activists all across Australia in the nationwide march on February 9th!
The genocide in Gaza is still ongoing. Since October, the ceasefire has been violated at least 969 times. Almost 500 Gazans have been killed by Israeli forces and more than 1,300 are injured. 83% of the buildings in Gaza have been destroyed, and an estimated 9,000 bodies are buried beneath the rubble.
1.5 million people in Gaza are displaced, living in makeshift tents with limited access to basic human necessities such as food, water, and medication. As they endure intense winter storms, flooding, continued airstrikes and shelling, Israel is blocking aid and banning humanitarian groups. Now, Trump is inviting billionaires, politicians, and war criminals, including Benjamin Netanyahu, Vladimir Putin, Tony Blair, and our Prime Minister, Anthony Albanese, to be part of the dictatorial Board of Peace that will rule over Gaza.
Despite the horror Palestinians are facing, the President of Israel, Isaac Herzog, has been invited to Australia following the Bondi Beach attacks. This is a man who was found guilty of inciting genocide, along with other Israeli leaders, by a UN commission of inquiry last year. He has consistently used his position to justify the targeting of civilians, claiming that “it is an entire nation out there that is responsible. It's not true this rhetoric about civilians [being] not aware, not involved.”
A prominent part of his election campaign was criticizing Netanyahu for not being brutal enough towards Palestinians. He is most infamously known for a photo of him signing bombs to be dropped in Gaza. Inviting this war criminal to Australia, while millions of Palestinians continue to endure untold suffering, is a complete affront to the peace that Palestinians deserve. It's an endorsement of Israel's violence.
Over the past month, there has been a concerted campaign by right-wing voices in Australia to detract from the genocide by falsely linking the peaceful movement for Palestine to the horrific Bondi massacre. Between The Australian’s smear campaign, the Premier’s new anti-protest laws, and now Albanese's hosting of Herzog, the government is doing everything it can to rewrite the narrative.
We cannot let them drown us out!
Now is the time we fight back. We are in the majority: almost 60% of Australians want sanctions on Israel. Last year we saw the largest Palestine demonstration in Australian history with the March for Humanity. 300,000 people marched across the Harbour Bridge, defeating attacks against the movement by the police and Chris Minns.
With Herzog's arrival, we can't let the criminals responsible wash their hands clean of genocide. Now is the time to protest.
Join us on Monday February 9th at 5:30 pm at Town Hall!
