The salt will stain me

By Genevieve Ripard
The salt will stain me

my eyes have seen it all,

my eyes have experienced it all.

through the pokes of mascara wands,

to hundreds of contacts.

the good,

the bad,

all.

right now, my eyes are too heavy,

and i wish they would close forever.

and as you lay,

your eyes giving away

right now, our eyes will be closed together.

my eyes may never dry,

and the salt will stain me.

my eyes may never meet with yours again,

and that pains me.

so, when they shut,

sealed by sudden misfortune

may my eyes open

and dream of distortion.

forecasting our unfamiliar fortune.
