SRC meeting update: January 2023 Council meeting

Student representatives from the UTS Students’ Association (UTSSA) attended their first Council meeting of the new year on Wednesday, January 25. This meeting saw the election of Ethnocultural, Disabilities, Queer and Environment officers for 2023. The position for Director of Student Publications was also up for grabs.

The position for Cultural Diversity Officer was contested between the candidates Mariam Yassine and Areejz Slamang. Yassine in her speech pushed for an improved complaints system, enhanced awareness of the Ethnocultural Collective and a new mentorship program for members of the Collective. Slamang was absent from the meeting. Despite this, Slamang was elected as Cultural Diversity Officer with a final vote count of 13 - 11.

The remaining positions were uncontested: George Pond was elected as Disability Officer, Sara Chaturvedi as Queer Students’ Officer, and Boris Tam as Environment Officer. Former Vertigo editor Ashley Sullivan was elected as Director of Student Publications.
