The media we consume ascribes permanence to our most basic instincts and reactions. Instead of challenging our beliefs and interests, our first reaction to something unknown or new is collected and fed back to us. Like, and you will see more of this. Dislike, and less will be shown to you.
The behaviour of these algorithms immediately reinforces our initial judgements. Consequently, the media that we consume is immediately tailored to us, so that we never have to think from another perspective or challenge the established.
Whatever we feel that we are lacking from our lives, the world we walk through as an online consumer will provide to us in product form – love, social gratification, wealth. It’s so easy to consume these societal norms without questioning why we desire them. Thus, the cycle repeats.
