Meet Tom Crotty. 3rd Year Communications UTS Student
Tom Crotty, the ever-talented, multifaceted, futsal champion and Backstage pres. This guy has more talent in his fringe, than most bald people have in their hair. He also just happens to be really really charming. Corny Collins in Hairspray, Corny Collins in real life.
WHAT IS HAIRSPRAY? (To you)
Tom: A story about opportunity, what it means to have equal opportunity, to tell YOUR story.
TELL ME ABOUT YOUR CHARACTER
Tom: Corny Collins is a product of his time. One of those characters that in getting to where he wants to go, is progressive. He’s very weird …in a sense that at the end of the show, he’s a good man, but not by virtue, but by necessity i think. It’s a necessity that to be in this world you have to be part of this progressive movement.
DO YOU HAVE ANY PREPARATION ROUTINES BEFORE GETTING INTO CHARACTER/PERFORMING
Tom: Consuming media, whether thats media of the time or representations (contemporary) I consume it all, take what I like and figure it out.
WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT THE 60’S
Tom: The music! Specifically, the Righteous Brothers. Men could be more sensitive about their art. The kind of sensitivity in music that wouldn’t crack the top 40 now.
IF YOU DID LIVE IN THE 60’S…WHAT WOULD YOU MISS THE MOST (FROM NOW)
Tom: Social Media!!
